Arthur Robert Tinkham, age 91, of Fisher and East Grand Forks, MN died peacefully early Saturday morning, April 6, 2013, at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND, with his family at his side. Art was born at Crookston, MN on January 16, 1922, the son of Roy and Nora (Swenson) Tinkham. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attended country school, and later worked on area farms. In August of 1943, during WWII, Art enlisted in the US Army.
On December 28th of 1943, while home on leave, he was united in marriage to Wilma A. Strande at Fisher. As a member of the 540th Combat Engineers Group he was sent overseas the following January to serve in the European Theater of Operations in Italy and France. Art received his honorable discharge from the Army in 1946 and returned home to Wilma. The couple lived in Fisher, MN for a time and then farmed in nearby Roome Township, before eventually settling on their farm in Nesbit Township. Sadly, Wilma passed away on April 7, 1985, and a year later Art retired from farming. Later in life Art spent many enjoyable years with his friend, Patricia Anderson.
