Donald W. Mootz, age 85, resident of Grand Forks, formerly of Lakota and Devils Lake, ND, died Friday, January 10, 2014 in his home at Parkwood Place. Donald Walter Mootz was born September 14, 1928 at Devils Lake, ND, the son of Walter A. and Mary K. (Geritz) Mootz. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to the Lakota area. Don was raised and attended school in Lakota, graduating from Lakota High School in 1946. He then attended Jamestown College and the University of Minnesota. He returned to Lakota in 1948 to help his ailing father in business. Don married Lorraine Lillian Larson on February 6, 1954 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo, ND. In 1963 they purchased the family business. Lorraine died October 16, 1994. Don served in the past on the Lakota City Council and St. Mary's Church Council. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6007 at Lakota and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly 792 of Devils Lake. Don married Madeline Schmidt in 1999. Don really enjoyed dancing, if the band was good, he would dance every night.
