Verna Eckman, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Verna Basol was born on May 13, 1927, on the family farm near Portland, ND, to John F. and Louise A. (Nelson) Basol. She grew up and attended school there. Verna married Leon Eckman on October 16, 1950, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They made their home in Moorhead where they raised seven children. Verna worked as a cook at Concordia College for over fifteen years. She had been an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead, and volunteered at Eventide for many years. She loved baking, cooking, sewing and gardening.
