
Roland Schweigert was born on August 22, 1923, to Jacob and Julia (Durr) Schweigert, near Lehr, ND. He was the fifth child in a family of seven children, having three brothers and three sisters. Roland graduated from Lehr High School in 1941. He moved to Lansing, Michigan, and lived with his sister Ester until April, 1943, when he was drafted into the Army Air Force during WWII. He served in North Africa and Italy until his discharge in November, 1945.
